Cosmic Films is thrilled to announce the North American acquisition of ABRAKADABRA, the stylish and sinister modern giallo from acclaimed Argentine filmmaking duo Luciano Onetti and Nicolás Onetti (Francesca, What the Waters Left Behind).

Originally premiering at international film festivals in 2018, the film earned praise for its vivid authenticity, razor-sharp aesthetic, and pitch-perfect homage to classic Italian giallo cinema, yet it was never given a wide release.

After years of being largely inaccessible and long out of print, Abrakadabra will finally receive the proper rollout it deserves. Cosmic Films will release the film across all major North American streaming and AVOD platforms, giving audiences the chance to experience a modern cult gem that has quietly built a global reputation among genre enthusiasts.

Synopsis:

Dante The Great, a world-renowned magician, dies in a tragic stage accident during a perilous illusion. Thirty-five years later, his son Lorenzo, now a celebrated magician himself, prepares for a major performance in one of the city’s most prestigious theaters. But when a string of brutal murders unfolds and evidence begins pointing directly to him, Lorenzo must unravel the deadly mystery before the final curtain falls…

Blending the neon-sleek style of 1970s giallo with modern filmmaking precision, Abrakadabra delivers a striking mix of hypnotic visuals, knife-edge suspense, and a labyrinthine mystery that would make Argento proud.

Following its initial festival run, including screenings at genre showcases across Europe and South America, Abrakadabra saw only limited release with small Blu-Ray runs (now out of print) and scattered international streaming placements, some of which were heavily censored.

Cosmic Films is resurrecting the film in its fully uncut form, presented exactly as the filmmakers intended.

“We love films that deserved more than they got the first time around,” says Cosmic Films founder Danny Takacs. “Abrakadabra is a perfect example of a modern giallo done right. It's sleek, moody, stylish, and crafted with real affection for the classics. It slipped through the cracks, but now it finally gets the chance to find the cult audience it always deserved.”

Abrakadabra is directed by Luciano Onetti & Nicolás Onetti, with a script by the Onetti's and Carlos Goitia. It was produced by Carlos Goitia, Pablo Guisa Koestinger, Michael Kraetzer, Neri Lauria, Nicolás Onetti, Maria Paula Rios, and Diego Savignano.

The film stars Germán Baudino, Maria Eugenia Rigon, Gustavo Dalessanro, and Clara Kovacic.
