Cosmic Films Acquires Atmospheric Sci-Fi Thriller 'Flashlight' for Worldwide Release

Cosmic Films has acquired distribution rights to the indie sci-fi thriller "Flashlight," a moody, slow-burn mystery that blends psychological tension, conspiracy-tinged atmosphere, and high-concept science fiction.
Written and directed by Justen Patrick Lander, Flashlight follows a solitary woman drawn into an unsettling series of nocturnal encounters as unseen forces begin to shape her reality.
“A reclusive nighttime janitor is pulled into a series of mysterious after-hours jobs that unravel the secrets behind her missing father and the existence of parallel dimensions.”
Set largely in quiet, empty spaces after dark, Flashlight builds its unease through atmosphere and implication rather than spectacle. A recurring late-night radio program, echoing the tone of classic overnight broadcasts and fringe talk shows, provides a haunting backdrop, grounding the film in a world of whispered theories, unexplained phenomena, and uneasy truths.
The result is a film likely to resonate with fans of slow-burn sci-fi, conspiracy-themed storytelling, and the eerie comfort of late-night radio.
“Flashlight has a very specific atmosphere that really stood out to us,” said Cosmic Films owner Danny Takacs. “It’s hypnotic, unsettling, and gradually pulls you in deeper. It’s a natural fit for audiences who appreciate thoughtful, atmospheric science fiction.”
Flashlight was well-received during its festival run, with Dean Bertram of Midwest WeirdFest stating, "A gorgeous, evocative, and moody lo-fi, sci-fi, thriller. It evokes a mood somewhere between The X-Files and a Nancy Drew mystery. It is, in a word, mesmerizing.”
The film stars Nia Vega, Jacki Alberico, and Bill McLaughlin.
Flashlight will be released by Cosmic Films in early 2026 across streaming platforms and Blu-ray/DVD.
